  • Smart shoe pod

    A lightweight, clip-on pod attaches to any shoe to record and evaluate running style and instantaneously translates data into actionable, personalized instructions. Real-time feedback is provided by the app or directly by the built-in vibration motor.

  • Rechargeable battery

    The ambiorun pod is powered by a rechargeable LiPo battery, which runs up to 24h workout time. It comes with a charging cradle. We consider this more environmentally friendly than disposable coin cells. And since it calculates a lot, it would use a lot.

  • Data storage

    The sensor records and stores the data autonomously as you run. Data can be synchronized with your iPhone either during or after your run. Just attach the ambiorun sensor to your shoes, put on your shoes and run.

  • Shoe mounting clip

    The shoe clip is attachable to laces by 4-point attachment to minimize wiggle for accurate gyroscope reading. If you use several shoes put a mounting clip on one of each pair. The ambiorun pod simply snaps into its base.

  • Sensor technology

    Core technology is a 9-axis sensor combination including a gyroscope. Ambiorun protects joints and tendons by closely monitoring impact forces and rotations.

  • Recovery status

    Every time your app is activated, Ambiorun will welcome you personally with a display of the optimal time window for your next activity, your optimal training sequence and recovery time. This recovery-supercompensation cycle is based on your age, previous training time, intensity and duration. For leisure runners this model serves as an ad-hoc training plan that indicates when to wait and when to train again.

  • Real-time coaching

    The ambiorun coach can be used interactively to control and improve your running style. You can optimize important parameters like foot strike type, running efficiency, joint loading or the proper relation of step length and step frequency (shown). All you have to do is to match current (dark) with optimal (pale) or listen to the auditory instructions or switch on the vibration feedback.

  • Performance tests

    In addition to recording and coaching your run the app contains some really nice advanced features: shoe tests to find the optimal fit and to check material fatigue, standard jump tests to assess muscular performance and muscular potential. It even determines your individual anaerobic threshold (IAT) without the need for a lactate blood test as it obtains exact results from an outdoor exercise test (in combination with any BLE heart rate monitor).

  • Data recording

    The ambiorun pod can record the running data autonomously and sync later to the iPhone. In addition to the usual running metrics it evaluates and stores important biomechanical data - as used by the coach. When you run with your smartphone that data can be connected to the GPS track. There is no GPS sensor in the pod.

  • Timely alerts help prevent injuries

    Continuous monitoring of the stress on your joints and automatic detection of fatigue helps prevent injuries. Subtle changes in your running style indicate the beginning of fatigue. Such kind of fatigue is not detectable by heart rate monitoring. The impacts of all steps are evaluated, both on g-force and on rotations. The app will alert you as soon as the load on your joints reaches your individually set limit.

    Ambiorun is a personal coach in a small package

    The coach algorithm analyzes past training sessions and suggests optimal parameters to focus on for the greatest possible improvement. Joints and tendons are protected by closely monitoring impact and rotation forces, analyzing the optimal load reducing running strategy and translating it into real-time instructions like increase or decrease step length versus step frequency (dependent on current speed and personal factors), switch to a different strike pattern (heel- mid foot- toe, dependent on experienced pain) and more.

    Communicate with your Ambiorun coach easily and immediately by pushing a pain button, setting personal thresholds and recording how you feel after every run. Like a good coach, Ambiorun is responsive and coaches to optimize your running style and training intensity based on personal goals to make you run faster, longer and reduce your injury risk.

  • Time to recover

    The recovery-supercompensation cycle

    A training load is followed by a recovery phase, where your muscles relax, recover and adapt to the new stress. As your body recovers your energy level overshoots the original level just before the training application. The adaptive rebound above the baseline is called the supercompensation phase. The aim: apply a new training load within the supercompensation phase. This will increase your performance potential over time.

    Runners often exhaust themselves with too much training not allowing appropriate recovery time; or they do not train regularly and miss the optimal training window. Ambiorun calculates the optimal time window for the next training sequence and recovery time based on runner’s age, previous training time, intensity and duration. In this recovery-supercompensation cycle the training session is followed by a recovery phase to give muscles the best chance to relax, recover and adapt to new stress.     Ambiorun is a great motivational tool for running! You will be able to increase your performance gains faster while it helps to protect you from running injuries – as nothing is more demotivating than pain!

    According to a recent survey of Prof. Benno Nigg on all scientific studies done on how many runners suffer running injuries, the numbers are ridiculously high (Nigg BM, et al. Br J Sports Med 2015). On average almost every second runner is affected.

    G-force and rotational movements of all steps are evaluated. With ambiorun you receive a warning if the load on your joints reaches a critical limit. Moreover, automatic fatigue detection algorithms are used to fine-tune your individually set limit. Subtle changes in your running style indicate the beginning of fatigue. Such kind of fatigue is not detectable by heart rate monitoring.

    Radically simplified and accessible for everyone

    The most important number in endurance training is your individual anaerobic threshold (IAT), the speed at which you are able to do endurance runs without accumulating too much acidity in your muscles. Conventionally this is assessed by a ramp up test measuring accumulation of lactic acid in the blood.

    Ambiorun allows you to find your IAT bloodless by obtaining exact results from an outdoor exercise test (in combination with any BLE heart rate monitor). You will be able to do this test on a regular basis, since it is easy to perform and doesn’t cost anything.

    A key component of running efficiency – and used by the Ambiorun coach – is the normalized foot contact time (NFC). It correlates with the amount of energy you can recover at each stride. The professional way to monitor and train the muscular performances is by three vertical jumps: squat jump (SJ), counter movement jump (CMJ) and drop jump (DJ). They determine the power of concentric muscle contractions in the legs (SJ), in a slow stretch-shortening cycle (CMJ) as well as a fast stretch-shortening cycle (DJ), revealing the performance and the potential of specific muscle system.

    While the most professional sports teams perform the standard jump test typically twice a year on stationary systems like force plates, Ambiorun enables its users to frequently monitor agility performance and its development over time.
