The recovery-supercompensation cycle
A training load is followed by a recovery phase, where your muscles relax, recover and adapt to the new stress. As your body recovers your energy level overshoots the original level just before the training application. The adaptive rebound above the baseline is called the supercompensation phase. The aim: apply a new training load within the supercompensation phase. This will increase your performance potential over time.
Runners often exhaust themselves with too much training not allowing appropriate recovery time; or they do not train regularly and miss the optimal training window. Ambiorun calculates the optimal time window for the next training sequence and recovery time based on runner’s age, previous training time, intensity and duration. In this recovery-supercompensation cycle the training session is followed by a recovery phase to give muscles the best chance to relax, recover and adapt to new stress. According to a recent survey of Prof. Benno Nigg on all scientific studies done on how many runners suffer running injuries, the numbers are ridiculously high (Nigg BM, et al. Br J Sports Med 2015). On average almost every second runner is affected.
G-force and rotational movements of all steps are evaluated. With ambiorun you receive a warning if the load on your joints reaches a critical limit. Moreover, automatic fatigue detection algorithms are used to fine-tune your individually set limit. Subtle changes in your running style indicate the beginning of fatigue. Such kind of fatigue is not detectable by heart rate monitoring.
Radically simplified and accessible for everyone
The most important number in endurance training is your individual anaerobic threshold (IAT), the speed at which you are able to do endurance runs without accumulating too much acidity in your muscles. Conventionally this is assessed by a ramp up test measuring accumulation of lactic acid in the blood.
Ambiorun allows you to find your IAT bloodless by obtaining exact results from an outdoor exercise test (in combination with any BLE heart rate monitor). You will be able to do this test on a regular basis, since it is easy to perform and doesn’t cost anything.
A key component of running efficiency – and used by the Ambiorun coach – is the normalized foot contact time (NFC). It correlates with the amount of energy you can recover at each stride. The professional way to monitor and train the muscular performances is by three vertical jumps: squat jump (SJ), counter movement jump (CMJ) and drop jump (DJ). They determine the power of concentric muscle contractions in the legs (SJ), in a slow stretch-shortening cycle (CMJ) as well as a fast stretch-shortening cycle (DJ), revealing the performance and the potential of specific muscle system.
